"Learn it and then forget it." 26 year old Jazz trumpeter Shawn Williams has followed this philosophy since learning it from his mentor Gary Pratt at Cal State University, Northridge. At Northridge, Williams studied with Bobby Shew & Howie Shear. Upon graduating in 2009, the Bay Area native continued his studies cross-country at the renowned Eastman School of Music. While studying in Rochester, NY Williams discovered himself as a musician. Studying with the likes of Clay Jenkins, James Thompson & Mike Kuapa. Williams overcame many obstacles and was fortunate to have been selected as a finalist in the 2011 National Trumpet Competition. After graduating with his masters from Eastman, Williams set sail to Europe and Australia where he performed for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. In July 2012, Williams was chosen to tour with the World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra playing the 3rd trumpet/jazz chair. For 13 months Williams travelled to 47 states, Canada & Japan. In January 2013, the orchestra recorded their latest album, In The Mood, which was released in June 2013. Shawn Williams has returned to the San Francisco Bay Area where he is beginning to make a name for himself.
